Fighting and Handling Your Shortcomings in a Job Interview

Fighting and Handling Your Shortcomings in a Job Interview

Job searching can be the toughest thing you can ever face after your graduation or when you are looking for another job. More so, the truths about job interviews are truly life-changing experiences and knowledge. In fact, people who have experienced job interviews have become more aware of what life has to offer when it comes to acquiring employment.

And if truth be told, job interviews truly test every person’s character, capabilities, values, and education. Therefore, it is an accepted fact that job applicants have to be aware of things, about how to get them equipped in fighting and handling their shortcomings in a job interview. But throughout the course of the job hunt, which includes job interview, there is only one point that will be highlighted after everything else happens: you performance on your interview can result in two things: rejection and acceptance.

The Shortcomings in a Job Interview that are Typically Faced by Applicants

Apart from the difficult questions during job interviews, other reasons can possibly bring you in the pit of failure, these are called objections.  Some of the objections that are also seen as shortcoming are:

1.    Inability to present college diploma or lack of college degree
2.    Inability to give certifications like certification for a particular major
3.    Inability to communicate well since the applicant only speak one language
4.    Inadequate number of years of work experience
5.    Worked in one company or none at all
6.    Worked in many companies in a short period of time
7.    No work experience in a particular industry, usually have diverse experience in various companies
8.    No particular skill or lack of particular proficiency

Apart from the mentioned above, there are still possible and existing shortcoming that may arise in a job interview. However, to highlight something from what have been mentioned as shortcomings and objections, your background matters a lot and can create a great impact in your acceptance in a particular company.

If you think that you possess the shortcomings stated above, you have more reasons to prepare, practice, and do something about it. Don’t have the “wing it attitude” or else your chances of getting the job you have dreamt will instantly slip away from your grasp.

If you lack the good background the company is looking for, you can resort to your job interview performance instead.

Tips to Know in Preparing Yourself for a Job Interview

1.    Oppress your negative feelings by practicing how to stay calm at all times. Being hot-tempered wouldn’t lead you to your goals.
2.    Give yourself much time in thinking what you need to do. Giving yourself enough time is also one way of self-preservation.
3.    Try to be polite, humble, sincere, and smart all at once. Such attitudes will intensify your good character and everything will be reflected the moment you begin talking about things that you are asked to answer.
4.    On interview proper, always ask about things that are unclear. Making some clarifications will let the interviewers know how interested and how eager you are to learn things about their company or your future position.

There could be many ways in handling your shortcomings in a job interview. However, the point here is, if you know you have shortcomings and you have the tendency to commit one, you have to do something about it as soon as you discover it.
