Public Speaking Courses: A Sound Investment for Anybody
As anyone who’s been in the working world for more than five minutes will tell you, there is no such thing as a pure meritocracy. The most qualified, experienced and intelligent people do not always get the best contracts or the plum jobs. Often they are outshone by other candidates who, whilst perhaps less suitable for the role, have prevailed through sheer force of personality.
Simply put, this happens because human beings are not machines. We do not form all our opinions based on logic and reasoning. Even if we’re not aware of it, we do respond to things like confident presentation, engaging speech and persuasive language, and make our decisions based on these factors as well as on logical grounds. Anyone who doubts this should look at the money made by the advertising industry over the last few centuries.
For people who aren’t so good at the showbiz side of business, this can be demoralising. Many are tempted to simply view the folks who light up rooms with their presentations as an unfortunate fact of life, they simply accept that some people are more charismatic than they are and move on.
