Anybody can give a presentation. But everybody does not have effective presentation skills. There are lots of people who have many things to tell, but cannot put forth their point somehow. On the other hand, there are people who can continue talking even if there is nothing substantial to say. For a presentation to be successful, the presenter must have good presentation skills, which are not god gifted, but need to be worked upon.

1. Always be ready:
It always helps to be organized and well prepared before a presentation. When you are well versed with your speech, it will add to your presentation skills. Experts suggest that almost thirty hours of practice and rehearsals are needed for that perfect presentation. You can use aids like a video camera or record your speech during the preparation. This way you can determine where you need to improve, and then you can make changes accordingly.
2. Share your story:
A person with effective presentation skills is ready to open up with the audience. You can use incidences from your personal life or a real life story to explain what you want to say. You may also tell them about some experiences at your workplace. This will create a greater impact of your presentation, since the audience can relate to the stories you tell.
3. Be calm:
If you are well equipped, you can stay calm. Nervousness affects our presentation skills to some extent. Always concentrate on your subject more than the audience. You can use different signs and motions in a presentation. Rehearse what you are going to talk and design the presentation that way. The first 30 seconds is a vital period for you, as the audience will form an opinion about you in this short time only.
4. Be humorous:
Remember that you are not participating in a comedy show. Good presentation skills do not involve making fun of any person in the audience. Try and incorporate humor in your presentation, which can involve something you just said. The audience is kept engaged in this way and they also appreciate when you poke fun at yourself. 5. Decide your body and hand movements:
Body language is an essential part of presentation skills. When you rehearse for your presentation, find out the parts when you can gesticulate. You can decide up to three standing positions, and the time and point at which you will be moving to those positions. Never go out of sight and lose eye contact with the audience.
6. Know the details in advance:
You can give an effective presentation only when you know all the details about the speech like the venue, type of audience, strength etc. It is a good idea to check out the venue one day prior to the actual presentation to make the necessary amendments.
