Voice Presentation Skills
Our voice is an inseparable part of our presentation skills. It is very precious for the presenter. It is our voice that the audience remembers, and the information is delivered to the audience by using our voice. It is effortless for us to tell if a person’s voice is very soft, unclear, and too loud. We may also instruct them to change it. The funny thing about it is that we tend to point out other people’s mistakes in presentation skills with respect to their voice, but when it comes to evaluate our own voice, we fail.
Let us find out the terminology that describes the texture of our voice. There are four important factors that make up our voice as follows:
- Volume of your voice: That implies how loudly or softly you speak. You should talk in a way that you are heard well by others without a need to shout. If you have a microphone provided, adjust it according to your voice. Holding the microphone a little away from your mouth will conceal the breathing and other sounds coming from your mouth. Thus your voice will contribute greatly to your presentation skills.
- Tone of your voice: Tone means the quality of our voice. The waterfall sounds different than that of waves at the beach. Some voices exude confidence and amaze the audience with their presentation skills. Ensure that your voice conveys the same message what you have in mind.
- Pitch of your voice: Pitch means the highness or lowness of any voice. Some people tend to talk in a high pitch, while others are naturally low. Practice your voice to adjust to the right pitch for good presentation skills. Some speakers talk in a low pitch to attract the attention of the audience, and use a high pitch to stress upon an important issue.
- Speed of your voice: The pace at which you speak is important. If you speak too fast, the audience may not be able to comprehend what you just said. On the other hand, they may not be impressed by your presentation skills if you speak very slowly too. The important thing to note is that the speed should be right enough for them to understand what you want to tell them.
How to enhance voice presentation skills?
Voice skills involve the development of the projection and tone variance of our voice. Basically, our voice needs to be trained to speak in a certain way that is expected in that situation. You can do this by practicing the same line in various emotions like surprise, irony, anger and grief. For example, try saying “The new proposal is very interesting” in all the above moods. You must teach yourself to almost act out the lines you are saying, as these presentation skills will create the desired impact on the listeners.
One more way to develop your voice is to listen to it yourself. Presentation skills can be highly affected if the voice is not used as expected. Moderation of voice can be practiced by listening carefully. Once you have a well modulated voice which can communicate your topic effectively, you can rest assured that you are proficient in one facet of presentation skills to say the least!
