Wedding Speech Advice for the Maid of Honour
Wedding Speech Advice for the Maid of Honour
The maid or matron of honour has many responsibilities to the bride before, during and even after the wedding. When the maid of honour agrees to become the maid of honour, she has taken on some fun duties and some duties that may not be so fun. One of those duties most important for the bride to have her day become all that she dreamed it would be is your wedding speech.
It is a well-known fact that about 98% of people when asked what they fear the most, it is speaking in front of an audience. It is a very real chance that you fall within the 98% and you are not looking forward to making a wedding speech. Use this article to help you become more confident in your ability to deliver a wonderful, memorable wedding speech.
Your greatest fear may be that you will forget what to say in your wedding speech. The best way not to forget what to say is to write it down. There is nothing wrong with writing your wedding speech on paper either word for word or as an outline. A written reminder of what you are going to say will give you more confidence and assurance in making your wedding speech.
Here are some ideas of what to include in your wedding speech.
- Tell things that you can share with others about how the bride felt about the groom when she first met him. Do not say anything that she would not want her groom to know.
- If you grew up with the bride, tell funny stories of things you did together. Also tell about the bride’s hopes and dreams for the future.
- What is an embarrassing moment that you shared with the bride that is only funny now? Please remember not to embarrass the bride with anything confidential or inappropriate.
- Tell the bride and groom how handsome they look together.
- Tell the groom of a funny habit the bride has that he will have to live with forever.
- If you have a talent for writing poetry or prose, write one for the bride or for the two of them and include it in your wedding speech.
- If you are married, you can include a word of advice about keeping a marriage alive, fun, or romantic.
- Tell your hopes and dreams for their happiness together.
Make sure that you keep within the time limit you have been given for your wedding speech. Everyone in the room will appreciate that you know when to sit down.
You may also be asked to give a toast to the bride at the bridal shower and if she has one, the bachelorette party. You will not have to prepare a formal wedding speech for these events, but it would be nice to prepare a small toast to the bride and memorize it.
Do not leave the groom out of your wedding speech. Whether he is to become your brother-in-law or your best friend's husband, he has now become a part of your life. Let him know that you will be there for the couple whenever they need you.
