Tips to Conquering Fear and Mastering Your Presentation Skills

Working on your presentation skills will help you overcome the fear many associate with public speaking. Some ideas to overcome the fears associated with speaking in front of groups can be found just before the presentation takes place, while others rely on good fore planning and execution. Presentation skills, however, need to be worked on and practiced, so don’t believe the process is like taking a pill or a shot.

Practice class

Unfortunately, the only way that you can lessen the fear associated with public presentations is to practice in front of people. Seek out groups that are designed to help with honing your presentation skills. Don’t think you’re the only one with issues. Your presentation fears actually out way fear of death in polls of peoples worst fears. Just about all groups that help in this regard will give you non-judgmental advice and tips regarding your performance. Take the criticism in a positive light. It is not meant as a personal attack.

Try differing things during practice class

Everybody is different when it comes to finding out what makes them tremble when giving a presentation. You won’t know what it is until you try different ways of giving different types of presentations. (Stepping out of person for a moment for examples sake) I had the same fears as you may have. I’m much better at presentations today because I took my own advice. The key to solving my fear was not using a microphone. It turns out that hearing my own voice amplified was what pushed me over the edge. I wouldn’t have known this was the case unless I tried several ways of giving the presentation. Now I know how to use my voice and volume to give fairly reasonable presentations.

Information organization

You know that you know the topic at hand. The attendees may not know quite as much as you. Why else would they attend? Use your presentation skills wisely by making the topic at hand as simple as reasonable to understand. This will leave more opportunity for you to relax and get through the presentation. If you feel that you need to “amp” it up a bit, wait till the latter parts of the presentation.

Eat and drink wisely

Their does appear to be a certain amount of evidence to support the assertion that; what you eat and drink will help you with achieving a better presentation. Although some may scoff a bit, the idea is to eat things like bananas and other fruits which affect the brain. These food items affect the chemicals in your brain and get them ready for cerebral activity. Plenty of water is also suggested to help your presentation skills as nerves often dry out your body.

Get fit just before the presentation

Just before you need to have your presentation skills at the ready get a little exercise. Don’t go for the full workout, but try a brisk walk or a few flights of stairs. What you are trying to do is get the body ready so that, when the time comes, your body’s chemicals are ready to perform and aide your presentation skills.
